How to record clear vocals in garage band ios (iphone/ ipad)

– Today I’m going to show you
how to record clear vocals using just your iPhone. (upbeat music plays on phone) ♪ I just need the time ♪ ♪ I just need the place ♪ ♪ You just say the word ♪ ♪ I’ll be there ♪ (laid back hip hop instrumental) All we’re going to be
using today is your iPhone, a pair of headphones. Make sure you have the adaptor. We’re ready to get started. First we’re just going to
start by opening GarageBand and creating a new session
by pressing the plus sign. They have all kinds of
cool different things, different instruments you can use. We’re just going to start
with the audio recorder. So we’re going to click voice. Then we’re going to click this
little mix board situation touch lead vocals and
switch to radio ready. I also like to turn the monitor on so I can hear what I’m doing. Turn the pitch control
up just a little bit. (hums a melody) Let’s just get the
settings up to our liking. I like a little bit of delay. (sings sweetly with a small echo) Press the mix board again. Let’s scroll down to plug-ins and EQ. I like to turn on the visual EQ. And I like to reduce some of the bass cause the bass is where
like the air condition and like the hum of electricity is. You just want to find the ugly frequencies and get those out of here. (sings and app makes
frequency adjustments) I don’t like that I
sound like I’m in a box so let’s just trim out that. I stick to like three to five dB’s so it’s not like too crazy. And the treble is where
you can add some air. (sings and app adjusts vocal) ♪ Mmm, mmm I like that. ♪ ♪ Let’s take it down to ♪ ♪ Maybe like three or four dB’s. ♪ Okay. So next up let’s exit plug-ins and EQ. Let’s go back to the main workspace and I’m going to click on this plus sign in the right hand corner and add some bars because
right now it’s only, oops, it’s only eight bars and that’s clearly not
long enough for a song. Okay, let’s put it at like 110. So now we have more space to work with. Then I’m going to click
on this little loop button and this is where you can either upload music from your
iPhone or Apple Music, whatever you actually
have local on your phone, on your actual phone. If you have something saved
in the Apple Files app this is where you can upload it. And today we’re just
going to use Apple Loops. You can find drum loops here. You can find piano loops. You can literally just search
whatever you want to search. They’re all here. They’re all royalty-free. Let’s go to guitars. (acoustic guitar plays) (guitar plays Brazilian melody) (electronic guitar wahs) Okay, well luckily I’ve
saved a few that I like. So let’s rock with this
Dreamy Electric Piano. I’m digging that. (dreamy electronic keyboard melody) And so to add it to your session you’re just going to hold it until it drops into your session. Let’s click it and drag it
to the beginning of the song. If you want to make it a little different we can click on Dreamy Electric Piano and we can switch up the sounds. I like synths. (dreamy electronic synths) I like this vibe. Now let’s record some vocals. So for the best sound
you’re going to want to lay your phone down on a flat
surface and not touch it. And potentially be in a room
that’s not as reflective as the current room that I’m in. Maybe put a blanket over your head so that you can eliminate a lot of the outside sounds that
you don’t want to record. (metronome clicks four beats) ♪ I just need the time. ♪ ♪ I just need the place. ♪ ♪ You just say the word. ♪ ♪ I’ll be there. ♪ ♪ I just need the time. ♪ ♪ I just need the place. ♪ ♪ You just say the word. ♪ ♪ I’ll be there. ♪ So now that we’ve gotten
some cool vocals in, let’s go back to the loop thing and let’s add some drums. I’ve already saved some drums I wanted. Let’s try these. (drums roll and snap) Sounds interesting. There we go. (full song plays together) One of my other favorite things to do is to go to the plug-ins, add a noise gate. It eliminates any dead air that was there. Just be careful not to go too high on the threshold
with the noise gate cause it will chop your vocals like this. (vocals play back) You see now it’s just silence. (vocals play back again) We just want to cut out all
the dead air in between. If you make any adjustments
to the vocal chain that you want to make. (song plays back) ♪ I could be, I could be, I could be ♪ ♪ I could be everything you wanted ♪ ♪ Everything you ever wanted. ♪ ♪ I just need the time. ♪ ♪ I just need the place. ♪ ♪ You just say the word. ♪ ♪ I’ll be there. ♪ So thank you for watching this video.
