Tolerance Video Competition 2010 Awards Presentation

The U.S. Embassy announced its second
annual tolerance video competition earlier this year to highlight the
importance of celebrating diversity. High school students in Hungary were invited
to submit short video clips on YouTube that captured the message of celebrating
diversity in the creative, imaginative, and thought-provoking way. Finalists
along with all the competitors were invited to participate in an award
ceremony, which took place at Berzsenyi High School in Budapest on June first with
Ambassador Eleni Kounalakis. The winning video was a team effort by Mihály Vörös and Sebastian Jaspers. The top prize was an iPad, donated by Ambassador Kounalakis. The first runner-up was Tamás Deák who received an iTouch as a prize. An iPod
Nano went to Gábor Márton, the third place winner in the competition. In
addition to the top three winners, the Ambassador’s Choice Award went to György Sarmasági. In her remarks Ambassador Kounalakis said that this video
competition formed a part of a commitment and sustained effort to
embracing tolerance and diversity. And quoted from President Obama’s famous speech, delivered almost a year ago at Cairo University in Egypt, “All of us share
this world for about a brief moment in time. The question is whether we spend
that time focused on what pushes us apart, or whether we commit ourselves to an
effort, a sustained effort, to find common ground to focus on the future we seek for our children and to respect the dignity of all human beings.”
