    You can find on internet many similar products that use the audio channel to control things. Hardware: Just a connect a 90 cents 8 bits micro to the audio channel for cross-zero trigger counter, attach an IR led to the micro and connect the power with few more standard components. Software: just a pattern detector and a small IR database for the micro.
